Tapio Vailahti joins Valimo Wireless as CEO

Helsinki - 2.04.2007 - Tapio Vailahti will take over for Will Cardwell as CEO of Valimo Wireless Ltd. Mr. Vailahti comes to Valimo from Gemalto where he was most recently Vice President of Identity Product and Solution Management. Mr. Cardwell joins the board of directors and continues to support the business as a senior advisor.

“Tapio’s professional connection with us has deep roots in Valimo’s cooperation with Setec – the SIM card vendor, bought by Gemplus and recently merged with Axalto to become Gemalto. He has a wide range of managerial experience having run the product development and the product marketing efforts at different points in time at Setec,” Will Cardwell explains.

“Tapio Vailahti’s experience combined with retaining Will Cardwell as an advisor and board member adds to Valimo’s competitive business advantage. Tapio also has the technical background to further build Valimo’s strategy and will certainly help us to make the most out of our current experience and leading market position for mobile signature and identity solutions,” continues Alexander Ehrnrooth, CEO of Atine Group Oyj, Valimo’s majority owner.

At the end of April we are presenting the Valimo Mobile Authentication Client (VMAC) to the SIM vendor community at the SIMposium 2007 in Berlin, and this is an excellent opportunity to have Tapio spearhead our marketing campaign,” adds Jarkko Elonen, Valimo’s Chief Operating Officer.

Combined with the recent strategic investment from Risto Siilasmaa and Mr. Siilasmaa joining the board of directors, Valimo is well positioned to continue its rapid growth. With the two recently announced deals delivering mobile signature service infrastructures to Turkcell in Turkey and Telefónica Móviles in Spain, the subscriber coverage ready to use mobile signatures has increased from 7 million to about 60 million subscribers.
