| News Archive 200424.02.2004 Helsinki/Cannes 24.2.2004 - Valimo Wireless Ltd. and Stockway Ltd. have crafted a solution package leveraging the convenience of contactless identification tags and mobile digital signature applications. Using an RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tag on the back of a mobile phone, the subscriber can transfer a unique service initialization signal to an RFID reader. The service initialization message is mapped to the subscriber’s mobile phone number and without further ado, e-service messages can be sent to the phone. In this case, the mobile phone will receive a signing request asking the user to authorize the payment to a merchant. “Our solution is a clear indicator of how the combination of separate technologies creates significant value-added and ease of use in the mobile e-service concept, concerning mobile payments and remote user authentication, which require strong information security.”, comments, Mr. Juha Mitrunen, Senior Vice President of Valimo. “According to the findings of the recently published report, Mobile Proximity Payment Services, there will be 60 million users of transport-related mobile payments services in Europe by 2010. The market for mobile transactions is expected to be worth just over US$380 billion by 2010.”, Mitrunen continues. “Integrating an e-service into a retail purchase concept has been quite a challenge so far. In this case, the RFID tag’s service initialization message has been used for starting a purchase transaction”, the managing director of Stockway Oy Mr. Jari Kaitera comments. “Furthermore, the same contactless identifier can be used for example to obtain a virtual entrance ticket” , Kaitera continues. The Valimo-Stockway solution will be demonstrated this week in the 3GSM World Congress 2004 event in Cannes and in Helsinki in during the MTV3, OP group and Valimo mobile payment demonstration event.
