| News Archive 200411.03.2004 HELSINKI, Finland - HP and Valimo Wireless Ltd, a Finnish mobile and network software company have introduced a new solution package, which allows end-users to deploy a range of authentication methods for enhancing access management with HP OpenView Select Access. The solution offers a centralized, fast and cost-efficient way to benefit from several authentication methods and policy management via one centralized solution. HP OpenView Select Access is a server-based infrastructure for offering policy and user management services to web servers and other IT applications. However, for a secure decision process, end users requesting access need to be properly authenticated. This is where Valimo iD Server comes into play. It handles all the authentication requests from HP OpenView Select Access and manages the user authentication process. Valimo’s centralized user authentication approach complements HP OpenView Select Access’s centralized Single-Sign-On framework by supporting authentication methods ranging from conventional username & password schemes to digital signatures from a user’s mobile phone. The authentication methods include smart cards, national ID-cards, other PKI-enabled smart cards, one-time passwords to the mobile phone, banks’ authentication services and wireless PKI authentication methods from mobile operators. "Valimo iD Server's key advantage is its ability to offer a bundle of authentication methods with varying degree of security requirements and complexity", says software sales director Juha Hulkkonen from HP. "With this joint solution packaged from both HP’s and Valimo’s state-of-the-art products our customers can build effective, diverse and secure authentication systems for their networks." "Many companies combine their service and product offering with an on-line support tool and delivery channel", says Vice President Samu Konttinen, from Valimo Wireless. "Also, customers, business partners and employees need to access certain applications and information sources within a company’s IT network. For these scenarios the most logical option is to centralize those support functions that ensure proper access control and user authentication. Our aim is to ensure that all relevant authentication methods can be made available through our Valimo iD Server", Samu Konttinen continues.
