| News Archive 200308.10.2003 Helsinki - ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) has published standards for a Mobile Signature Service (MSS). The specifications are part of ETSI’s Mobile Commerce (M-COMM) framework. This is a big step in providing guidelines for a commercial implementation of services centering on digital signatures in mobile phones. The emphasis is on the front-end interface specifying a set of basic service calls (such as requesting a signature from a mobile phone user) using the web services framework."Valimo warmly welcomes the published standards for this area," comments Mr. Juha Mitrunen, Senior Vice President of Valimo; "since we now have a level playing field in offering the required infrastructure components." Furthermore, the ETSI specifications outline a clear path towards a roaming model, where digital signature services can be requested while traveling outside a mobile phone network operator’s home network. "Once mobile operators accept the M-COMM framework, the focus will shift towards processing performance and the ability to centralize other security related services." continues Mr. Mitrunen. Valimo’s recent achievement of porting Valimo Validator onto the HP NonStop platform is one of several development initiatives to ensure that Valimo Validator remains the most competitive solution for a mass-market deployment of mobile signatures In regard to added-service leverage Valimo Validator customers have the option to incorporate OCSP-services and RADIUS-based authentication calls processing. These are just two functions that go beyond the current ETSI specifications.
