Valimo and Netseal introduce secure mobile user authentication for VPN and seamless network handovers
The new solution was introduced in CeBIT 2003

Hannover - Two Finnish high-technology companies, Valimo and Netseal, introduce jointly developed solution for user authentication and seamless network handovers between any IP networks such as GPRS, 3G, WLAN and LAN. The solution makes it possible to use available bearers with Virtual Private Network (VPN) in a way that the user does not have to authenticate every time he walks away from WLAN range or unplugs the LAN connection, but the secure connection is switched seamlessly to an available network. Similarly, when the user returns to WLAN covered area, for instance, the connection is switched from GPRS back to higher-speed WLAN.

Whatever the bearer, the user is authenticated only once by using his mobile phone and the phone's capability to create digital signatures. The strong user authentication is based on digital signatures and it is tied to the actual end user, not the client software nor the device. This means freedom to use the solution in corporate office environments as well as in environments equipped with public WLAN access points, and with home broadband or dialup connections. The users use their mobile phones as authentication devices and no other external authentication devices are needed.

Netseal MPN^TM (Mobile Private Network) enables seamless network handovers between any IP access networks while maintaining user's application sessions. Netseal MPN^TM combines mobility with IPsec-based VPN data security without unncecessary data overhead. Valimo Validator combined with Netseal MPN^TM offers strong PKI-based user authentication for the secure access using mobile phones as users' authentication devices. Valimo Validator supports different technologies to handle WPKI (Wireless Public Key Infrastructure) including WAP 1.2.1 and SAT (SIM Application Toolkit) phones.
