Gemalto Selects Valimo As Its Global Mobile Authentication Vendor
Valimo and Gemalto have signed a global reseller agreement. The two companies will provide convenient and secure Mobile authentication technology for all mobile network operators and financial institutions worldwide.
The joint out of the box offering is instantly available to customers around the globe. Valimo has been selected by Gemalto as its preferred partner for mobile identity and mobile signing solutions.
"Valimo successfully launched Turkcell's Mobile ID together with Gemalto and now we extend this success to other markets. Several mobile network operators have already recognised the business opportunities that mobile authentication and signature technologies enable. New services are being developed and made available across the world at a growing pace. Together with Gemalto's global sales force we can deliver Mobile ID and signature solutions all over the world" says Juha Murtopuro, CEO of Valimo.
"Wireless PKI based authentication and transaction confirmation compliments nicely our current solution offering as it leverages the key generation and encryption capabilities of the SIM card and enables access to many services that require highly secure authentication without compromising end user convenience. It also means new revenue streams and increased ARPU to our operator customers." says Pascal Oromi, Gemalto VP Mobile Financial Services.
Lattelecom Launches Mobile ID Services in Latvia
Lattelecom, the leading provider of electronic communications services in Latvia, and Valimo have commercially launched Mobile ID services in Latvia.
Using Valimo's technology, Lattelecom offers the Mobile ID service platform to Latvian service providers and mobile operators. Lattelecom launched the service with nine service providers, including Latvijas Krājbanka bank, Riga city council, Lattelecom's and Latvijas Mobilais Telefons' (LMT) online customer service, along with local enterprises and universities.
"On average, an active Latvian internet user has 11 electronic password-protected accounts. Majority of internet users (84%) have had difficulties accessing their important information, due to forgotten passwords," explained Rinalds Sproģis, the Chairman of the Board, Lattelecom Technology. "Mobile ID is a simple, easy to use solution to prove your identity and get an easy access to your accounts. The user doesn´t have to remember separate passwords, just one PIN code is enough."
"Latvijas Mobilais Telefons' subscribers are the first in Latvia to use Mobile ID," said Andris Forstmanis, Vice-President of Latvijas Mobilais Telefons. "More and more LMT customers browse the internet on their mobile phones and we expect to see rapid growth in mobile signing in the coming years, as the method is secure, legally binding and easy to use. Convenience of Mobile ID makes it appealing for both service providers and end-users."
At launch, Mobile ID can be used to access internal portals of the University of Latvia and Riga Technical University, LMT's and Lattelecom's online customer service centres, authorised pages of Latvijas Krājbanka, the Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD), Gulbja laboratorija and Riga City Council.
Telco 2.0 Case Study On Mobile Signature Solution Approaches Key Growth Milestone
The case study on the Mobile Signature solutions Telco 2.0 reports that an ID and authentication system such as Valimo Mobile ID increases messaging ARPU by 20%.
"Developed by Valimo Wireless, it's an identity/authentication system that uses a 2-Sided Telco business model to reportedly raise messaging ARPU by 20%. It is approaching a major Telco 2.0 growth milestone of achieving inter-carrier operability on Digital ID. The article reviews recent progress and outlook, how Mobile Signature works, the total opportunity, and the 2-Sided principles it embodies."
Telco 2.0 gives the estimate on the future market potential of ID and authentication services in Europe and North America.
"In the 2-Sided Business Models report, we estimated that the market for ID/authentication services in Europe and North America might reach $15bn a year by 2017, based on our analysis of key vertical industries. Interestingly, and tellingly, it seems to be around the fringes of Europe that Valimo's product is getting traction; perhaps there might be even bigger opportunities in the BRICs?"
